Introduction

What are the best places to travel Alone in Asia? That’s a good question. Asia is a great choice for solo travel because several countries are more than suitable. Travelling alone in Asia is safer than in the United States, Latin America, or Africa in many respects. You may find that the best places to travel alone in Asia are those no one has heard of, those that are difficult to locate on a map, or where you’ll run into random strangers out of thin air. To the uninitiated, Asia is a region rich in diverse cultures, history, languages, and, above all, people.

Whether you’ve been travelling alone for a long time or this is your first time, Asia is a great place to go alone. In Asia, solo travellers are well taken care of – the transportation between countries is excellent, most cities are cosmopolitan and safe (especially for women), and there’s accommodation to suit every budget.

The Best Places To Travel Alone in Asia

El Nido, Philippines

El Nido, Philippines

El Nido, Philippines

There are so many beautiful islands and locations to visit in the Philippines that it can be a little overwhelming, but there is a reason why El Nido was my favourite place to visit during my time there. Simply put, it is stunningly lovely in every way. The water is crystal clear blue, and the cliff sides are a breathtaking shade of green. During the day, embark on a well-known boat ride that will take you to picturesque locations that are perfect for Instagram.

We highly recommend taking the slow boat from El Nido to Coron if you have the time and are interested in camping because of the beautiful scenery along the way. It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know new people, and you also get to camp on completely uninhabited islands.

However, there is no need to worry about anything because everything is organized and prepared for you. Experience the thrill of having your meals prepared over an open fire while sleeping in the great outdoors. If you have the time, you should do it because it will be beneficial.

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Southeast Asia, Siem Reap, Cambodia is a great, low-cost pit stop. Angkor Wat is a wonder of the world. Thinking that it was built in the 12th century of 5 BC will blow your mind. Angkor Wat, just north of Siem Reap, is not included in the total price we used, but as a city, Siem Reap would be near the top of this list for the best value. Since the temples are on par with the Giza Pyramids or the lost city of Machu Picchu in terms of sheer size, it’s not uncommon for visitors to stay for three days or even a week to take it all in.

Besides Angkor Wat and its stunning temples, Cambodia has much to offer travellers. It is a town full of expats, delicious restaurants, and good nightlife.

If you’re looking to meet new people, head to Pub Street. Enjoy the street markets or enjoy beers for under $1. Southeast Asia is cheap, and Siem Reap is probably the cheapest. Get pampered like a king or queen at world-class resorts for a fraction of the cost back home.

Singapore

Jewel Changi, Singapore

Jewel Changi, Singapore

Regarding global impact, Singapore punches way above its weight as a small island city-state off southern Malaysia. It is also a major centre of tourism and travel in Asia. Years have passed since Singapore has been regarded as one of the safest cities in the world. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Singapore ranked as the world’s second safest city in 2015. According to Index, Lion City is also rated top in terms of overall personal safety, making it an ideal starting point for solo adventurers.

Singapore’s tough penalties ensure that you can walk around without worrying about being robbed even if you commit a major crime or a low-level offence. There are plenty of interesting and fun things to do in Singapore, just as with any other top destination in Asia. Singapore’s diverse cuisine, for instance, offers a wide array of delectable local staples, including satay, ice kacang, and chicken rice, which are sure to be a hit with foodies. Instagram junkies will revel in the city’s numerous dazzling attractions, like the Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.

There is a great deal to see, do, and eat in Asia, which makes it a top destination for solo travellers. There is a vibrant expat community, and the city has a cosmopolitan vibe.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam

Vietnam’s ancient capital city has a compact and easy-to-visit centre, a great mix of Colonial and Asian architecture. If you are a backpacker, Vietnam is a backpacker’s paradise! Every year, millions of people on a tight budget flock to this country. Everything in Vietnam is affordable, from transportation to accommodation and even dining. It’s a nice place to go for a vacation if you do not want to spend much. When you first arrive in Asia, you may be intimidated by the motorbike traffic, but once you get the hang of it, daringly crossing the street is a lot of fun.

The food here is well-known, and the street-side Ph soup is arguably the best in the country. If you join the locals on the tiny plastic chairs on the sidewalks, you can eat well for almost nothing here, but even in the tourist restaurants, things tend to be cheap and delicious. Other popular sights include the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the “Hanoi Hilton” prison, both free or inexpensively priced.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia

Every traveller who visits Indonesia and its many islands cannot help but be intrigued by its famously diverse collection of islands. Every one of the world’s more than 17,000 islands provides visitors with a one-of-a-kind adventure, complete with its own distinct language, culture, religious practice, and cuisine.

There are many things to do in Indonesia that will make your trip there stand out in your mind, whether your passion lies in nature or history. For honeymoons, family vacations, and solo travellers just like us, Bali is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. You’ll understand what I mean when you get there, by the way.

But there is no denying the fact that Bali is so much more than just a place to go in Indonesia to find oneself. An adrenaline junkie can find a variety of thrills and outdoor adventures to partake in on the well-known Island of the Gods. These activities range from surfing and jungle trekking to hiking rugged and picturesque mountains. Those who are looking for a place to let their hair down will find an abundance of nightlife options on the island.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur, is largely overlooked and underappreciated, like the rest of the country. Besides its cheap long-distance flights, this is another ideal city for its exotic-feeling culture and small size. There seem to be more than enough shopping centres in this large and very modern city not far south of KL, but it is also oddly cheap considering the cosmopolitan feel.

The food and culture of both China and India are easy to spot, but the combination of the two provides a unique counterpoint that you won’t find anywhere else. This city is also a worthwhile party destination thanks to the excellent international restaurants and more liberal alcohol laws.

It’s no secret Malaysia’s food scene. It is sumptuous, and its capital is sure to satisfy even the most discerning foodies. Discover homey and eclectic Malaysian cuisine at the many casual eateries, street-food stands and hawker stalls in the city, most of which are suitable for solitary dining. Additionally, many five-star restaurants in the city serve a wide range of local and international cuisine. At ATAS in The Ruma Hotel, you can sample the modern Malaysian fare or try Dewakan, the first Malaysian restaurant on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. One thing’s for sure – this is a trip that your taste buds won’t soon forget.

Hong Kong

Victoria Peak, Hong Kong

Victoria Peak, Hong Kong

People think of Hong Kong frequently conjure up mental pictures of double-decker trams, world-class art museums, and well-known dim sum restaurants. And while time should be set aside for all of those things, as well as solitary strolls through Soho, Sheung Wan, and Sai Ying Pun, the real magic can be found along with one of the many beautiful hiking trails that are scattered throughout the city. The Dragon’s Back is a 9-kilometre hike that is considered to be moderate and is accessible all year round. Looking for a bigger challenge? From Shek Pik all the way to Tai O, the Lantau trail covers a distance of over 18 kilometres and provides hikers with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape, including ancient ruins and verdant meadows.

A few decades ago, Hong Kong had a reputation for being one of the most affordable tourist cities in the world; however, times have changed, and many of the city’s deals have disappeared. However, despite being relatively costly compared to other Asian countries, this city is so visually arresting and alive that it is well worth the additional money spent while vacationing here.

Hong Kong Island’s skyline is considered one of the most picturesque in the world, and the views that can be had from the Peak are truly remarkable at any time of day. In addition to having an absolutely world-class food culture and party scene, this city is home to a bustling harbour that is an attraction unto itself, as are the famous and inexpensive Star Ferries. However, these two aspects of the city’s culture do not necessarily go hand in hand with low prices.

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is the most well-kept secret in all of Asia. It has retained a natural and breathtaking beauty throughout the years. Stay right on the beach for a price that won’t break the bank. You can forget about shoes completely on this vacation and simply walk along the beach to your favourite restaurant instead of bringing them. The waves in this town are some of the best around. It doesn’t matter if you want to learn how to surf, hone your skills, or if all you want to do is watch the gorgeous people who surf. Sri Lanka has it all.

Spend just one hour away from the beach and observe elephants in their native environment on a quick day trip. Either keep yourself busy or give yourself permission to relax and do nothing at all. It is well worth going to Sri Lanka.

Those who have a passion for tea know Sri Lanka is home to some of the world’s most exquisite tea leaves. In the city of Colombo, you’ll find contemporary tea houses and traditional tea parlours, both of which allow you to try the famous export of the country. Visit a plantation in the serene and mountainous Hill Country to gain a deeper understanding of the tea culture by learning how tea is harvested and processed. You will gain this knowledge during your time at the plantation.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

Flights to Bangkok, which is a major hub for air traffic, are typically the cheapest in Southeast Asia. This is perfect, as Bangkok is also the best place to start a trip to the region, as it is the best place to start a trip. This sprawling and enormous city could feel intimidating if it weren’t for the majority of important sights within walking distance from the backpacker district located along Kho San Road.

Aside from shopping, Bangkok is famous for its cuisine, particularly the low-cost and plentiful street food available all day, every day. However, this is also known as one of the best places in the world to go shopping, as the central district is comprised of nothing but indoor shopping malls one after the other. There are thousands of shops to choose from and compare, selling everything from high fashion at affordable prices to discount electronics from well-known brands.

Tips for travelling alone

Now that you know the best Places To Travel Alone in Asia let’s move on. Here, we’ll go over the basics, like what to pack and how to get around on a solo trip. Even if you choose to travel by yourself, there is no requirement that you must spend the entire time by yourself. When you go to an event by yourself, it is, in point of fact, much simpler to strike up conversations with strangers. Sometimes, all you need to do to get people interested in what you have to say is flash a friendly smile in their direction.

In addition to that, it is one of the most effective ways to get some thinking done. Traveling by oneself is a great way to clear one’s head because the experience of being alone for long periods is similar to that of meditation. There is no point in acting fake or putting on a show for other people because all that remains is the truth and your responses to it.

You should not be concerned about being by yourself at all!

Take a day off before you even leave on your trip so that you can go sightseeing in the place you already call home, whether it be a town or a city. Take some time to explore on your own and pretend like you’re a tourist by taking in the sights along the way. When you are alone for a period of time, you may initially experience boredom or restlessness. It will just take some time for you to get used to this, as it is perfectly normal. When you feel like you can spend an entire day alone without feeling uncomfortable, plan a weekend trip to a nearby city or state. Make the most of this opportunity to travel to a new location and do so on your own terms.

You might find that after a few trips of this kind over the weekend, you become addicted to the freedom that comes with travelling by yourself. You are free to go wherever you want, see places in any order you choose, and are not bound by the schedules of others. As soon as the trip starts, you will have a direct experience of how enjoyable it is to travel by yourself.

Pick a nation that welcomes visitors from other countries.

Countries that have a larger tourism market and industry are typically more accustomed to the presence of people from other countries. It is also common for these countries to have infrastructure and systems specifically designed for travellers, making it much simpler to navigate and explore the country in comfort.

When you travel to a nation with robust tourism industry, you can expect to blend in more seamlessly with the locals. It is also very helpful to know that the structure for buses, tours, hostels, and everything else that is necessary for a solo traveller has already been set up. Additionally, there will be other travellers for you to interact with! It is always comforting to know that travelling alone can be a social experience and that making friends while doing so is possible.

It is ultimately up to you to decide what kind of travel experience you are looking for and the kind of vacation ideal for you. If you choose to travel to a nation that tourists do not typically visit, you should be aware that travelling around the country will most likely be more challenging, and it is possible that you will be one of the very few people from other countries that the natives have ever seen in their entire lives! Travelling to nations where there is less tourism can be more difficult, but it is not necessarily less rewarding.

Drive with some common sense, please.

As a solo traveller, you need to rely on yourself. Without friends to help you out of trouble, you must learn to stay alert and watchful. A good thing to do is to try to blend in with the locals. Follow the local rules, and don’t try to show off. It’s also a good idea to avoid talking about religion, politics, and sex. One sure way to start a fight is to try to “re-educate” the local people.

Some cities are a lot more dangerous at night. In any case, try to stay in well-lit areas where you can see other people. Keep calm, be careful, and use common sense. Don’t pick fights or start a scene for no reason. Don’t count on locals to help you out if you’re causing trouble. Respect the local laws and be polite.

Create a list with all of your important contact information in case of an emergency.

Make sure that the information for your emergency contacts is easily accessible by compiling a list. Your personal contact information, the name of someone you can reach in case of an emergency back at home, and any other important phone numbers you might require can be included on the list. For instance, you could include the toll-free number for your credit card company’s customer service department in the event your card is lost or stolen or if your travel plans are disrupted and you need to activate the travel protection benefits.

In addition to that, you need to take a picture of your stove. When you are rushing around trying to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything before you leave for the airport, it’s easy to forget to turn off the stove, the coffee maker, or the iron before you leave. When you get to the airport, look at the picture of the dials on your stove to ensure everything is off. If that is not possible, ask a friend or your landlord to turn it off for you while you are away so that you have one less thing to worry about while you are gone.
